Android · no file, no Play Store

Add Crictime to your Android home screen

Chrome and Samsung Internet can install a website as an app. For Crictime that means an icon among your apps, a full-screen window with no address bar, and the match list as the first thing you see. No file is downloaded and the phone asks for no permissions. It is done in well under a minute.

Tap once, then confirm in the box your browser shows. If no box appears, follow the steps underneath; they get you the same result.

Crictime is already installed here. Look for it on your home screen.

Want an APK file instead? One exists. It needs a download and one permission, and the APK page covers both.

The manual way, in Chrome

1

Load the site in Chrome

Enter play.crictime.is in Chrome's address bar. Use the real Chrome app (Samsung Internet works too). A link opened inside WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram runs in that app's own small browser, which can display the site but has no way to install it.

Then open Chrome's menu: the three dots, top right.

2

Pick Add to Home screen

Recent versions of Chrome list it as Add to Home screen and then offer Install; some show Install app directly in the menu. Either wording is the right one.

Now and then Chrome puts an install banner at the foot of the page on its own. Tapping that banner skips this step.

3

Tap Install

Chrome shows a box with the Crictime icon. Choose Install. The icon lands on your home screen, and on most phones in the app drawer too.

✓

Open it

Tap the new icon. Crictime fills the screen and shows today's matches. Picking a quality, and the automatic reconnect when a stream stumbles, behave just as they do in the browser.

There are no updates to install: the icon loads whatever the site currently is.

On Samsung Internet: open the menu (three lines, bottom right), choose Add to, then Home screen, then Add. When a site is installable, Samsung Internet also puts a small arrow icon in the address bar, which does it in one tap.
On Firefox: menu, Add to Home screen, Add. Firefox only makes a shortcut that opens in Firefox, so Chrome or Samsung Internet are the better choice here.

Problems and fixes

There is no Add to Home screen or Install app in the menu. The page is open inside another app (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram and Gmail all do this with links). Copy the address, start Chrome from your home screen, and paste it there.

The icon opens a normal browser tab with an address bar. You have a shortcut instead of the app. Long-press the icon, remove it, and go through the steps again; the box in step 3 must say Install.

The menu entry is greyed out in Chrome. Check the app drawer first, since Crictime may already be installed. If it isn't, update Chrome in the Play Store and retry.

Nothing happened when you tapped the button at the top. Browsers decide when that dialog is available. The manual steps don't depend on it.
